Together & Ever

Together & Ever is a GM-less tabletop role playing game for 2-4 players about the intertwined lives of woodland animals. It celebrates queer community, found family, and the simple joys of a quiet life.  

A session is comprised of a series of stories that form an anthology of the connection between characters. A session will range from one to five stories. It could go longer, if you’re feeling adventurous. You can return to this world over and over again and play as many sessions as you’d like, collecting volumes over time. 

Together & Ever was written for the Queer Game Jam, and will likely receive a more polished update with some additional resources in the near future. 

Cozy. Together & Ever is inspired by Frog & Toad by Arnold Lobel, and other animal stories that I loved as a child. No problem should feel so impossible that it ruins a story. Conflict should move the story forward, and be focused outside of the intrapersonal. 

Flexible. In this game, you both play as and advocate for a specific character, but you are also the co-writer of a grand, charming story. Use this flexibility to build agreements together when challenges arise, and think openly about what solutions might work. 

Community. Regardless of what type of relationships you choose to depict, and there are many options, this story is about an ecosystem. Ecosystems work best when they support each other. You are a team, and even when someone is facing a challenge, the goal should be to work together towards a solution. 

Heart. While the game’s conflicts might seem low stakes, the situations that arise are important and valuable to the characters in this world. Things are not trivial just because they are not life-and-death.

While I do not consider this game to fall within the bounds of Belonging Outside Belonging, it was influenced by the mechanics of BOB games, and therefore I express my gratitude towards the system for its wisdom.
