Little Quests for Party Guests
A downloadable game
Little Quests for Party Guests is a printable one-sheet zine booklet that can be slipped in your pocket, ideally along with a tiny writing utensil, and brought to a party.
At the moment in time there are five variations, presented here in a "web format" for a preview - but don't worry, the downloads below are formatted for zine folding!
In general, when playing any of these games, you should strive to play in a way that is fun, safe, and kind.
Content Information
These quest games are designed without reference to substance use, so they can be played regardless of your preferences around things like drinking.
The main challenge booklet, Little Quests for Party Guests, does not reference food or include any food-based quests. The other three - Wedding Guests, Quiet Guests, and Groups of Guests all contain at least one food-adjacent prompt. If food-related prompts are particularly triggering for you, or if you're attending a party during a time when you are not eating for religious or cultural reasons, then know that you can easily and comfortably play the Party Guests edition of the game.
ON TO THE QUESTS!
***NEW*** Little Quests for Convention Guests - A specialized version for play at gaming conventions. You could probably make it work at a different convention if you wanted to! This version has one activity that requires (ish) a d20. But you can make it work without one.
Little Quests for Party Guests - The OG concept, this is a solo game to play at your own pace, whether you complete it in one party or five. The prompts range from 'starter' prompts to more brave and challenging prompts, though all are designed to be friendly and flexible.
Little Quests for Groups of Guests - This is a competitive version of the game, with five group challenges. Print one copy of the zine for each person in your friend group, and then race to see who can complete all the challenges in the most creative ways.
Little Quests for Quiet Guests - An adapted version of Little Quests for Party Guests that does not include any prompts that push for interacting with others. The prompts are completely different to the original, so you could play both.
Little Quests for Wedding Guests - A specialized version of the game that would be best suited to the specifics of a wedding, though obviously not all weddings are the same, so you may need to creatively interpret the wording of a prompt here or there.
Each game comes double-sided with a fill-in-the-blank Certificate of Achievement on the back so you can give yourself an award when you finish all the quests. You could also print the certificate out separately if you need to.
Credits & Other Stuff
Created for Revival Jam 2024, because this idea has been rattling around in my head as a partially-completed list of ideas ever since a dear friend's party inspired it a few years ago. And a huge shoutout to the Society of Play community for being so welcoming, and embracing these little zines.
Fonts used in the game are Grandstander, Cloister Black, Baskerville, and Helvetica Neue. 8-Page Zine template made by Shouting Crow.
Design influences for this game include Gamechanger, Taskmaster, Grapefruit by Yoko Ono, and McSweeney's Internet Tendency.
The party quests are free, but if you enjoy playing them, a review where you share your experience would be greatly appreciated. There are more quests in the works, including a whole-party version. They will also be added here, so stay tuned.
